Nico Krijno is losing his sight.

MURK begins here, but it is not a book about loss. It is an exploration of perception and the role images play in how we understand the world.

Krijno has never treated photography as a straightforward representation of reality. He paints, cuts, copies, obscures, and rearranges, taking images apart and building them up again. Objects become images, the familiar turns strange, and meaning is never fixed.

We live in a time when both nature and culture seem under pressure. Perhaps we have adapted too well to a world that no longer gives us what we are looking for. There is a growing need for images that remind us of the beauty and connections that remain.

MURK has no linear narrative. Images echo, return, and contradict one another. Working intuitively and physically, Krijno embraces accidents and imperfections, pushing images beyond the point of certainty.

A photograph can show us something, but it can never tell the whole story. Memory, imagination and expectation fill in the gaps. For Krijno, making images is a private, physical practice, something closer to prayer than production. A way of paying attention and trying to make sense of a world that does not always make sense.

MURK offers no answers, only questions about photography, perception, and what remains possible. These images do not attempt to explain the world. They invite us to see it differently.
