This project explores the home where Sara grew up—a place where the strangeness of lived experience coexisted with the familiarity of everyday life. As an intimate space, it should have offered comfort and protection. Instead, it became the setting for painful moments.

Today, Sara perceives this space as threatening. Uncomfortable and dysfunctional, her home bears witness to the scars of the past.

Through her photographs, Sara revisits these memories and reclaims agency over her own body. Her miniature figures embody the identity of a young girl in formation, shaped by imbalance and emotional wounds. As she deconstructs and reconstructs her environments, objects become bodies and bodies become objects, expressing feelings of deformation and petrification.

A Home With No Roof creates an antagonistic tension between seductive aesthetics and disquieting details. Miniatures enable me to regain control, distancing myself from the past and releasing new strengths to fully become an adult.
— Sara de Brito

Winner of the Prix Images Vevey x ECAL 2023, Sara De Brito Faustino investigates the dysfunctional home of her childhood through meticulously composed models and self-portraits. Within these miniature interiors—where tenderness meets strangeness—each detail becomes an act of reconstruction.

Her work is now being expanded into a large-format book, accompanied by a miniature edition that plays with the artist’s favorite theme: scale.
