Taking Off. Henry My Neighbor

Apollon, Apollon Magazine, April 4, 2022

The linchpin of Taking Off. Henry My Neighbor is Martha's fracture. The moment when she throws out sending nude photos and leaving the house she has lived for so many years together with her husband Henry. Hobby artist Henry took photos of his wife and muse in the different stages of undressing and accumulated more than five thousand changing photos, which he carefully cataloguesized, labeled, indexed and tagged.

The pictures are testimonies of how a feeling of faintness and speechlessness can arise between two people. And you are evidence of an obsession. In Martha developed the urge to break out of this endless cycle of undressing and nude posing. She has to be aware of the genes in which she was involved. Only whense discovered Henry's studio, she found the courage to take the pictures, to rip them from the wall and to bring them to the public - beyond all shame.

With this final liberation she decided against hiding, regardless of what others might think. She was now above things. Like Martha, we too often mask our pubic and guilt until they become unbearable. Like other victims, Martha also chose the truth. And Henry disappeared into the woods of northwest New Jersey and was never seen again.
