From November 13 – December 12, 2025, India Mahdavi’s Project Room #21 presents a selection of works from the forthcoming retrospective CAN LOVE BE A PHOTOGRAPH. 40 Years of Inez & Vinoodh, opening March 20, 2026, at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, the Netherlands.

Inez & Vinoodh possess a seemingly endless capacity to explore new visual territories. Since the early 1990s, they have been among the first to embrace digital imaging technology as a creative and expressive medium, developing a signature visual language that fuses beauty, provocation, and emotion. Their work redefined the possibilities of photography, pairing visual seduction with conceptual depth.

Recognized as pioneers of digital image manipulation, Inez & Vinoodh are equally celebrated for their mastery of black-and-white portraiture. Moving fluidly between the art and fashion worlds, they carefully select the context for each project, allowing both realms to inspire one another and dissolve traditional boundaries between them.

The works on view at Project Room #21 capture the boundless expansiveness of their vision, innovating within the medium while remaining in dialogue with their past. Created in Marfa, Texas, as part of JOY, In Three Parts — a multi-city exhibition curated by Kathy Ryan in collaboration with Apple — these images are among the first to be photographed with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

At the heart of the presentation is THINK LOVE., the central work of a triptych in which two lovers, Charles Matadin and Natalie Brumley, embrace beneath a transparent red veil. The image embodies both the ecstasy of romantic love and the quiet introspection of intimate connection.
