Every year the Nordic Light Festival of Photography returns to Kristiansund, Norway, a small village on the country's West-coast. This year, Anja Niemi got selected to exhibit her work at the festival.
During a few days in the authumn, on the rugged west coast of Norway, world renowned photography legends, aspiring photographers, students and lovers of photography gather in the small and charming Norwegian coastal city of Kristiansund. The festival program presents lectures, exhibitions, gallery talks, book signings, portfolio reviews, and movies, and attracts photographers from all over the world.
For this years edition, Anja Niemi will exhibit works from "The Blow" and "Cowboy". The Norwegian photographer's work is based on staged photography, touching on a cinematographic narrative logic. The images assert small nuances within complex stories in which she is both author and character. Through this way of working, Niemi controls every aspect of the making-process, which results in beautifully orchestrated and reality-touching shots.
Anja Niemi studied at the London College of Printing and Parsons School of Design in New York and has exhibited in galleries worldwide. Four monographs of her work have been published and her images are part of various public and private collections. Recent museum exhibitions include Fotografiska, Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon and Des Moines Art Center.
